For a cruise from Ravenna, put Porto Corsini—not central Venice—into the final transport plan. If the flights suit you, Bologna is the simpler airport starting point by road. Choose Venice when you also want time there or its flight works better, then budget for the substantially longer transfer.
Rail can be a good choice when you are comfortable managing luggage and connections, particularly with an overnight stay in Ravenna. The crucial detail is that Ravenna railway station is not the cruise terminal. Reserve the last local leg as carefully as the longer journey.

Start with Porto Corsini’s actual location
Royal Caribbean’s Ravenna port directions identify Terminal Crociere–Porto Corsini. The Ravenna port authority also identifies Porto Corsini and links to the current call calendar. A booking marketed with Venice in parentheses should not be read as a departure beside Venice’s central attractions.
Use the terminal name on every transfer inquiry and supply the ship, date, passengers and bags. If two cruise segments begin and end at different Italian ports, price them as two different transport problems. A return ticket to the same airport is convenient only when the road or rail journey after the cruise still works.
Bologna: a shorter road connection or a rail-based stay
Royal’s published airport-to-pier estimate is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Bologna BLQ. This excludes landing formalities, baggage and waiting to meet a driver. A direct transfer is our first comparison for several people with large bags or for travelers who want to minimize changes after a flight.
For a rail-based plan, Marconi Express connects Bologna Airport and Bologna Centrale in about 7½ minutes of running time. Its fare page currently lists a standard single at €12.80 and a family single for up to two adults and three children aged 5–16 at €25.60. The family ticket requires at least one adult and one child in that age range and is sold online. Add the separate Ravenna train and terminal transfer; those prices are not airport-to-ship fares. Venice: choose the experience, then pay for the distance
Royal gives approximately 2½ hours by car or 3 hours by bus from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Porto Corsini. Those estimates explain why a Venice arrival needs a proper transfer plan. They are not a guarantee that a late-morning landing will fit an afternoon boarding deadline.
A stay in Venice can be an enjoyable part of the holiday. Make it a deliberate extension rather than a hotel chosen because the itinerary label seemed to place the ship nearby. Airport pickup, a city meeting point and a mainland railway station are different places. For a cruise-line transfer, obtain the exact location, booking eligibility, departure time and luggage terms in writing; an old forum meeting point is not a current reservation.
Finish the rail journey with a booked local transfer
Visit Ravenna’s cruise-transfer page describes the port as about 15 km from the city and lists station-area transfers taking about 30 minutes. Its checked round-trip station service uses Piazza Anita Garibaldi, about 300 metres from Ravenna railway station. That short walk is still a separate part of the trip when you have suitcases or mobility needs.
The municipal tourism transfer page lists the port-to-station-area service from €20 on selected dates in its 2026 calendar. Visit Ravenna lists round-trip products from €36, with luggage choices. Treat these as dated starting prices; choose the actual service and date before comparing the total. Verify both meeting points because a product’s destination label can say train station while the vehicle stops a short walk away.
Choose an overnight location that makes the morning easier
Ravenna is a practical base when you want the long-distance journey completed before embarkation. Confirm that the accommodation has a workable route to the booked transfer point, and allow time for breakfast, checkout and bag handling. A beautiful hotel is less useful if the final pickup cannot accommodate your party’s luggage.
Bologna can suit an evening arrival and city stay, but leaves the longer connection for cruise morning. Venice makes most sense when visiting Venice is itself part of the trip. Compare the room, all transport and the morning schedule together. For a family, a higher room price near the required meeting point can be offset by avoiding another vehicle transfer.
Build a return plan with room to change
On disembarkation day, book around the cruise line’s current guidance and the provider’s rules for delayed clearance. If you need a train after the local shuttle, include unloading and the walk to the station. One fixed-price ticket is not a good saving if the schedule leaves no workable alternative after a delay.
