Vista class suits travelers who want Holland America’s traditional cruise routine and would rather choose the itinerary than chase the newest venue. Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Noordam offer pools, lounges, theater entertainment and a substantial range of verandah accommodation in a smaller footprint than Pinnacle.
There is a major date distinction to keep straight. Holland America has announced Evolution upgrades, beginning with Oosterdam’s planned return in December 2027. This guide describes the current September 2026 fleet, not facilities that are still in the future.

The current Vista layout before Evolution
The four ships share a related long-hull design with a covered Lido pool, observation spaces and a conventional dining-and-lounge arrangement. They are large enough to offer several daily choices while remaining below the scale of the newest resort ships.
Their similarities make itinerary, room location and departure logistics especially important. Refits and venue changes have created differences, but a blanket “best Vista ship” ranking would imply more certainty than the published layouts support. Start with the sailing that gives you the days ashore you want.
Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Noordam

Covered-pool days, observation lounges and current music
The covered pool and observation lounges can make these ships useful on variable-weather routes. For scenic cruising, identify both indoor seating and open-air viewing positions rather than assuming your cabin’s side of the ship will always face the main sight.
Rolling Stone Lounge and other music programming should be checked on the named ship’s current page. The fleet’s entertainment brands have evolved, so older references to B.B. King’s or a particular classical venue may not describe the present program.
Theater entertainment, activities and time on deck provide a conventional sea day. A traveler looking for elaborate waterslides, go-karts or a large family attraction complex should compare a different product rather than expecting a lower fare to compensate for facilities that are not here.
Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto and current Club Orange benefits
The main Dining Room, Lido Market, Dive-In and ordinary room-service options can establish an easy meal routine. Pinnacle Grill and Canaletto provide specialty alternatives; scheduled pop-ups should not be confused with a permanent standalone restaurant.
Club Orange uses priority seating and an expanded menu in the main Dining Room. There is no Pinnacle-class-style dedicated Club Orange restaurant in the current Vista design. Compare that benefit with the package price and your normal dining habits.
Grand Dutch Café is part of the announced Evolution story, not a current class-wide facility. If that café is a specific reason to book, choose a ship and departure where it is confirmed rather than relying on a general fleet announcement.
Current verandahs versus future Evolution categories
Verandah rooms are an important part of the design, and suite categories offer different levels of space and service. Signature and Neptune should not be treated as interchangeable labels. Confirm the lounge and priority benefits attached to the category you are pricing.
The planned new Oosterdam Solo Verandahs, Bridgeview Suites and other Evolution accommodation are future categories. A future deck-plan image on an official ship page can be correct for 2027 and still be the wrong plan for a 2026 booking. Check the effective date before selecting a room.
For the current ships, examine balcony coverage, nearby public areas and the route to dining. An aft-facing room may appeal for its view, but that does not make it the best location for someone who wants shorter walks. Compare the everyday route rather than only the photograph.
For the route and familiar Holland America facilities
Choose Vista for a traditional Holland America itinerary-led cruise with several comfortable public spaces and a conventional balcony option. It can be a sensible fit when the route is distinctive and you do not need the fleet’s broadest dining list.
Choose Signature for Tamarind and additional venue choice, or Pinnacle for the more extensive modern arrangement. If Evolution features are essential, book from confirmed post-refit plans and dates rather than assuming an earlier voyage will receive them.

Other ships to consider
Signature class is the closest step up in dining choice. Pinnacle class already has the modern venues that inspire parts of Evolution. R class makes the alternative case for a still smaller, more traditional ship.
