Choose a ship whose written policies fit how you want to spend the week. An adults-only space is not an adults-only ship, and a smoking area is not permission to smoke on a balcony. Clear distinctions help you avoid buying the wrong experience and reduce unnecessary disputes aboard.
Use the operator's current rule for the ship and venue, then follow onboard instructions. Passenger reports can describe how a rule was enforced on one occasion, but they do not replace the rule or guarantee the same treatment on another sailing.

Pool chairs are for use, not storage
Royal Caribbean's pool-chair FAQ says chairs are first come, first served and cannot be reserved. It describes staff removing belongings from chairs left unattended for more than 30 minutes with no sign of returning guests. That is a staff process, not an invitation to move someone else's possessions yourself.
If chairs appear abandoned, ask the pool team for help. Keep belongings with you when leaving for another activity and free seats the group is no longer using. If proximity to a pool is essential, consider the ship's actual seating layout rather than assuming every person can obtain a preferred spot at peak time.
Distinguish adult-only ships, sailings and areas
Virgin Voyages' age policy requires guests to be at least 18. That is a shipboard guest policy. Royal Caribbean instead describes Royal Caribbean: Adults-only areas and experiences on family-oriented cruises, with venue-specific rules. Neither an adult space nor adult marketing means every shared area is child-free.
Check the actual sailing if a charter or themed departure is advertised differently. Also remember that adult-only does not mean quiet: music, late entertainment and a busy pool scene may still be part of the experience. Dress for the venue you intend to use
Read the operator's Royal Caribbean: Onboard dress guidance and the current venue instructions. Formal, smart-casual and casual descriptions should be interpreted in their actual context. A photograph of someone admitted in different clothing does not promise an exception for you.
Choose a dining plan that suits your preferences. If you do not want to pack formalwear, identify suitable casual venues and their rules before departure. Keep footwear and shore-activity requirements separate from dinner clothing. Destination restrictions can also apply to items that are otherwise acceptable aboard, so check local guidance for the places you visit.
Smoking and vaping have designated boundaries
Royal Caribbean's guest conduct policy prohibits smoking inside staterooms and on their balconies and confines electronic cigarettes to designated smoking areas. Casino arrangements can vary by itinerary. Do not infer that an outdoor balcony is exempt because it is privately used.
If smoke exposure matters to your decision, review the ship's designated areas and nearby cabin locations, then ask the operator about the current layout. A non-smoking section does not establish that you will never encounter smoke elsewhere. Follow destination rules as well; the ship's permission to possess an item does not grant permission to take or use it ashore.
Resolve problems through the responsible staff
For a chair, venue-access or smoking issue, describe the location, time and observed behavior to the relevant team. Ask for help applying the rule. Avoid confrontations, moving possessions or photographing other passengers in private situations merely to support a complaint.
