Download a two-page packing planner for a short getaway, a weeklong cruise, a longer voyage, Alaska or a transatlantic crossing. Each has clothing quantities, checkboxes, boarding-bag essentials and space to write your own plan.

Choose the length of the cruise, then add hotel nights and travel days. The clothing counts are our practical starting points per adult, not cruise-line baggage limits or instructions to buy new gear. The 14-night and longer transatlantic versions assume a laundry plan; the PDF explicitly tells you what to increase if you will not wash clothes.

01

Choose nights, then account for the days on either side

Cruises are usually sold by nights. A three-night trip normally includes parts of four calendar days, and a seven-night trip touches eight. That does not automatically mean eight completely separate outfits: your travel clothes, daytime pieces and dinner outfits can be reused. It does mean the final morning needs a clean, accessible set of clothes, especially if you leave the main suitcase outside the cabin the night before.

For a warm-weather week, our starting point is six or seven daytime tops, three or four bottoms, eight underwear and sock sets, two repeatable evening outfits, two swimsuits if you expect to swim regularly, and one or two layers. Someone who works out daily, dislikes rewearing clothes or is traveling with small children will need a different count. A beach-focused trip and a city-heavy Mediterranean itinerary should not produce identical suitcases.

Write the hotel nights on page two before packing. Flying in two days early and staying three nights after a seven-night sailing is a 12-night trip, even if your booking says seven. You can either increase the clean-clothing count or add a realistic laundry stop. The guide to choosing a three-, five- or seven-night first cruise helps if you are still choosing the trip.

02

Make the boarding bag useful until the suitcase arrives

Think of the hand-carried bag as a small first-day kit. Put your required documents, payment cards, prescription medicines, glasses and valuables in it. Add a change of clothes and whichever first-afternoon items you actually plan to use: swimwear, sun protection or a light layer. Carnival's packing guidance specifically tells travelers to carry documents, valuables, medicine and items needed before checked bags arrive.

Do not bury the boarding pass under a week's clothing or depend on a phone connection to retrieve every document. Keep a usable offline copy of key travel details and your emergency contacts. The exact original documents required depend on citizenship, itinerary and cruise line; use the passport and visa guide as a checklist for what to verify, not as permission to leave a passport behind.

The U.S. State Department's cruise guidance recommends a passport book even when a cruise exception might otherwise apply, because an emergency flight home is different from returning on the ship. It also recommends enough prescription medication for possible delays. Arrange your individual supply and storage needs before departure rather than assuming the onboard shop can replace them.

03

Use laundry to reduce luggage only after confirming the service

The 14-night list uses a one-week wardrobe with laundry. Without a wash, increase underwear and socks to at least 15 sets for the cruise alone, then add land nights and personal needs. Adjust the number of clean tops for workouts, climate and how often you prefer to change.

Before reducing the pile, check your exact ship's self-service facilities or paid laundry service, the items accepted, the price and turnaround. A wash-and-fold offer may not suit delicate fabrics. A laundry bag submitted late in the voyage may not return when you need it. Our cruise laundry comparison explains the questions to ask and why a service on one fleet is not a universal amenity.

If you plan to hand-wash a few items, choose pieces that can dry indoors and follow the ship's rules. Do not depend on balcony drying or improvise a line that creates an obstruction. Keep the last night's clean clothing separate, and leave room in your bag for the things you will still be using after you hand over checked luggage.

04

Adapt the checklist for Alaska or a transatlantic crossing

For Alaska, start with adaptable layers rather than a suitcase full of heavy coats. Our Alaska version adds a waterproof hooded shell, a warm midlayer, shoes suited to the excursion, a warm hat and gloves. Royal Caribbean's Alaska packing guide also emphasizes layers and weather protection. Check the forecast near departure, then check what your particular tour supplies before buying specialist equipment.

A transatlantic crossing can include breezy deck walks, indoor activities and several consecutive days without a port call. Bring enough personal supplies for that stretch, plus entertainment you can use offline. The same route can feel different by month, direction and ship; our eastbound versus westbound transatlantic guide helps connect the packing choices to the trip you are considering.

Evening wear needs its own decision. Cunard's transatlantic packing guidance includes Gala Evening preparation, while other lines have different expectations. Do not pack a tuxedo solely because you are crossing an ocean, or leave appropriate evening clothes behind because another cruise was casual. Check the Cunard dress-code guide or the guide for your own line.

05

Check electronics and flight rules before packing accessories

A marketplace listing that calls an accessory cruise approved does not establish that your ship allows it. Royal Caribbean's prohibited-items policy, for example, prohibits power strips, extension cords, irons and garment steamers, while describing exceptions for qualifying device and USB chargers. Check the current policy for your line and the specifications of your actual charger.

The FAA's lithium-battery guidance requires spare lithium batteries and power banks to stay in the aircraft cabin, with terminals protected from short circuits. Remove them if your carry-on is gate-checked. Capacity limits and airline approval conditions apply, and individual airlines may be stricter. Check your airline and cruise line separately before packing a charger.

Follow your departure airport's screening rules for toiletries. TSA's travel tips explain its carry-on liquid rule and exceptions for medically necessary liquids. Other countries can use different screening procedures. You can avoid carrying large duplicate containers by checking the toiletries supplied in your cabin, while still bringing products you specifically need.

06

Print the planner and finish the personal checks

The PDFs use two U.S. Letter pages with low-ink colors, open checkboxes and space for notes. Print at actual size on Letter paper, or choose fit to printable area on A4. Print both sides if convenient. The first page covers clothing and essentials; the second records your laundry, evening wear, excursion equipment and trip-home plan. The complete collection contains the same seven two-page lists, so there is no need to print all 14 pages for one cruise.

Use the personal-supplies lines for anything a generic list cannot know: children's feeding items, mobility equipment arrangements, prescription storage or other individual needs. The CDC cruise health page recommends discussing motion-sickness concerns with a healthcare provider. These packing sheets do not prescribe a medicine or replace those arrangements.

Check each item against your itinerary, keeping any backup supplies you need and leaving room for purchases. For more help with a weeklong wardrobe and first-day bag, see the seven-night cruise packing guide.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Your decision checklist

  1. Choose the correct PDF and add land nights, travel days and activity clothing.
  2. Confirm laundry before relying on the reduced 14-night clothing count.
  3. Check the actual line's prohibited items and evening dress requirements.
  4. Keep required documents, medicine and the last-morning outfit accessible.
  5. Check airline baggage and screening rules separately from the cruise line's rules.
COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions travelers ask

Are the packing lists free to download?

Yes. Each linked PDF is a free two-page printable planner. The complete collection combines all seven versions into 14 pages.

Is a seven-day cruise the same as a seven-night cruise?

Cruise advertising is not always consistent, so check the departure and arrival dates. These lists use nights; a seven-night sailing generally touches parts of eight calendar days. Add hotel nights and travel days separately.

How much should I pack for a two-week cruise?

Use a one-week capsule only with a confirmed laundry plan. Without laundry, the 14-night sheet calls for at least 15 underwear and sock sets, more clean tops and adjustments for land stays, workouts and personal preferences.

Do I need a different packing list for each cruise line?

The basic clothing and personal items overlap, but prohibited accessories, evening dress, supplied toiletries and laundry facilities differ. Use the length-based checklist, then verify those rules for your exact line and ship.
