Carnival Sunshine class: rebuilt ships with different strengths
Compare Carnival Sunshine, Sunrise and Radiance after their conversions: Serenity, Big Chicken, cabin changes, dining and official deck plans.

Sunshine, Sunrise and Radiance are a reminder that the name on the hull and the age of the underlying ship tell different stories. All three received substantial transformations and new names. The right question is what the current layout gives you, not whether the marketing date sounds recent.
This class suits travelers who want familiar Carnival food and entertainment on a conventional ship with selected newer additions. It needs a little extra cabin research because added venues and accommodation can change how older deck plans should be read.
What matters for your decision

Rebuilt ships, not new ships at the renaming date
Sunshine was formerly Destiny, Sunrise was Triumph and Radiance was Victory. Carnival’s official class chart explicitly identifies their current-name dates as refurbishment/renaming dates. They are not ships newly built in 2013, 2019 and 2021.
The conversions brought different mixes of restaurants, water activities and public spaces into the existing hulls. Similar size does not mean identical facilities. Use the current name when opening a deck plan, and be wary of a room video published under the former name.
Sunshine, Sunrise and Radiance

WaterWorks and Sunshine's multi-level Serenity
WaterWorks and sports facilities bring active options to these rebuilt ships, but they do not create the attraction inventory of Vista or Excel. Look at the exact activity and age requirements before presenting the ship as interchangeable with a newer design.
Sunshine’s Serenity layout is a specific adult-space comparison point. A recognizable bar name on Sunshine is not proof of the same cabin-access concept found on Vista. Public venues and accommodation benefits must be checked separately.
For a shorter sailing, decide whether you mainly want a few active hours, comedy and a pool. If so, the rebuilt design may be sufficient. If the family expects a different large attraction every day, a newer class may fit better even when the fare is higher.
Familiar lunch choices and Radiance's Big Chicken
The main dining room routine, buffet, Guy’s Burger Joint and BlueIguana provide familiar choices. Radiance’s Big Chicken is a useful distinction, especially for travelers who value convenient casual meals rather than several specialty reservations.
Cucina del Capitano, sushi and other specialty outlets differ in their exact format and meal-period inclusions. Read the ship-specific list and current menu terms. A restaurant present on all three ships can still operate on a different schedule for a short itinerary.
Use specialty dining selectively. The ship’s renovations can make a restaurant sound like the central reason to book, but you will also use the room, corridors, elevators and ordinary included food every day. Those should remain part of the comparison.
Use plans published after the conversion
Start with the latest plan under the current ship name. Conversions can change room counts, public-space boundaries and the meaning of a location that looked attractive in an old review. Treat pre-conversion photos as historical evidence only.
Cloud 9 Spa categories offer a possible benefit for travelers who will use the associated facilities, but get the actual inclusion list. A room near the spa can be convenient and still be far from another daily destination.
For noise-sensitive travelers, look for cabins buffered by other cabins above and below. Check connections, upper berths and sofa arrangements against the exact occupancy. A nominally spacious category does not tell you how usable the floor area remains when every bed is made up.
When the rebuilt facilities fit the fare
Choose Sunshine class when the available route, casual-food options and rebuilt facilities fit the trip at a sensible total. Radiance is particularly worth comparing with the larger ships departing Southern California; Sunshine and Sunrise need the same departure-by-departure evaluation elsewhere.
Choose another class when the group wants a more open recent design, a named attraction absent here or a particular restricted-access cabin product. Extensive refurbishment does not make an older underlying layout identical to a newbuild.

Compare Conquest for a conventional Carnival alternative and Vista for SkyRide, Havana accommodation and more extensive recreation. If Italian-themed public spaces appeal, Venice offers another converted-ship approach with different room benefits.
