Windstar dining by yacht: sailing ships, Star Class and Basil + Bamboo

Choose a yacht for the meals you will use

Amphora provides the main seated dinner experience, while casual daytime food and outdoor dining shape the rest of the day. Reservations are useful for limited specialty spaces even though ordinary food is included. A small yacht does not have the spare capacity of a resort with several large dining rooms.

If your ideal week includes a familiar dinner room and long evenings ashore, the sailing yachts may be enough. If you want to alternate more onboard restaurant styles during a crossing, examine the Star yachts. Neither preference is a universal statement about better food.

Wind Star

Wind Star’s published dining pattern includes Amphora, Veranda and Candles, with room service available. The compact selection suits a traveler who wants a familiar onboard routine between ports. Make a Candles reservation for the outdoor setting if that appeals, and keep an indoor dinner option in mind if conditions make the deck less comfortable.

Wind Spirit

Wind Spirit has the same broad sailing-yacht dining pattern: Amphora, Veranda and Candles. Choose it for the itinerary and sailing-yacht experience rather than expecting the specialty variety of a larger Star yacht. A long lunch ashore and a straightforward dinner onboard can be a better use of the destination than maximizing every ship meal.

Wind Surf

Wind Surf adds the French-influenced Stella Bistro to the sailing-yacht combination of Amphora, Veranda and Candles. That is the relevant food distinction if you want sails and another specialty evening. Reserve Stella or Candles when you genuinely want that setting; leave other nights available for the main restaurant and the port schedule.

Star Breeze

Star Breeze’s current factsheet lists Basil + Bamboo, alongside the established Star-yacht dining program including Amphora, Veranda, Candles and Star Grill. The Asian-and-Mediterranean concept is a useful alternative to another steak-centered evening. Check the reservation process for your voyage rather than assuming that included food means you can arrive at any time.

For a sea-day lunch, compare the outdoor casual choice with Veranda’s offering before deciding. On a port day, keep the specialty dinner for an evening when you will return with enough time to change and relax.

Star Legend

Star Legend now has Basil + Bamboo: Windstar’s current May 2026 fleet discussion explicitly names it among the yachts operating the concept. Older brochures may still describe the transition from Cuadro 44. Use the current menu when choosing a dinner, particularly if an older Spanish-focused review was the reason for your interest.

The established all-suite yacht program also includes Amphora, Veranda, Candles and Star Grill. Those different settings can support a varied week without adding a paid specialty package. Choose a Basil + Bamboo evening for its Asian-and-Mediterranean menu, then leave another night open for a favorite main-restaurant meal or a port visit.

Star Pride

Star Pride’s Basil + Bamboo transition was scheduled for April 2026, and Windstar’s current May fleet article confirms it is now operating. That date matters when reading an older Pride review that recommends Cuadro 44: the new restaurant pairs Asian and Mediterranean influences rather than continuing the old Spanish concept.

Pride also offers the established Amphora, Veranda, Candles and Star Grill choices. If your voyage includes cool-weather ports, choose outdoor meals according to the conditions and use the indoor options as the reliable routine. For a shorter sailing, a Basil + Bamboo dinner and a Candles evening provide two distinct settings without filling every night with reservations.

Star Seeker

Seeker’s newbuild dining program includes Amphora, Basil + Bamboo, Star Grill and Yacht Club Café, with in-suite dining as another meal option. The operator’s deck plan and launch material support this specific set. Do not add Candles just because it appears on older Star-yacht lists.

Choose Seeker when the new layout and itinerary appeal, then decide which evening deserves a Basil + Bamboo reservation. Café food and a full restaurant dinner serve different purposes; a marketing count that includes room service should not be read as that many separate sit-down restaurants.

Star Explorer: planned December 2026 debut

Explorer is planned to begin its first season in December 2026. Published newbuild material describes Amphora, Basil + Bamboo, Star Grill, Yacht Club Café and in-suite dining. These are announced arrangements for a future yacht as of this September review, not evidence from an operating cruise.

Confirm final venue hours and reservation procedures before the inaugural season. A shared deck-plan document is useful evidence of the design; it cannot prove that a particular menu item or dinner time will be available on your sailing.

Outdoor dining is a preference, not a guarantee of conditions

A Candles dinner or an outdoor grill lunch can be a highlight when the conditions suit it. Make the reservation because you like the experience, then retain flexibility about weather and the ship’s operational plan. The same principle applies to special barbecues and destination events: do not assume every itinerary can offer an identical outdoor evening.

On a longer crossing, alternate a planned dinner with a casual meal so the week has different rhythms. On a port-heavy voyage, protect one evening for local food ashore if that is part of why you chose the destination. Included ship dining is an option you have paid for, not a reason to abandon the trip’s purpose.
