Sun remains the operating choice in this dated fleet review
NCL’s fleet taxonomy groups Sun and Sky together, but service status must be checked separately from a fleet landing page. NCL Holdings announced charters of Sky and Sun, and contemporaneous trade reporting places Sky’s final NCL cruise at September 9, 2026. Sun remains in NCL service in the September 23 snapshot; its planned later departure is not treated as already completed.
Sun’s conventional arrangement includes The Great Outdoors, a theater, pools and a range of lounges and restaurants. It is not a reduced version of Prima. The appeal is a simpler onboard proposition paired with the right route.

The Great Outdoors and unstructured sea days
The Great Outdoors is a useful feature for travelers who like an open-air meal or a place to watch the wake. It offers a different kind of pleasure from a large ride complex. Weather and seating demand still affect how much you use it.
Theater shows, live music, pools and organized activities form the entertainment routine. There is no Speedway or Aqua Slidecoaster. Do not book a family expecting those features simply because they appear prominently in Norwegian’s wider advertising.
On a long itinerary, consider the number of sea days honestly. A short attraction list may be ideal for a reader who wants time to read, but less suitable for someone who needs several structured activities each afternoon. The itinerary should test that preference before the fare does.
Included meals and sailing-specific booking terms
The main dining rooms, buffet and casual venues establish the included meal routine. Specialty options span several cuisines, but the ship’s current list and operating hours should control the plan.
Compare any meal package against your likely dining pattern. A smaller ship does not automatically make specialty dining necessary, and a longer cruise does not mean every evening needs a paid restaurant. Keep the full trip budget in view, particularly when flights are substantial.
Future fleet-transition plans make date-specific booking details especially important. Confirm that the named sailing is actually operated by Norwegian under the terms quoted. A historical ship page or third-party itinerary listing is not proof of current inventory.
Room variations and suites without a Prima-style enclave
Compare interior, ocean-view, balcony and suite layouts directly. Older designs can have room variations that are not obvious from a generic category image. Look at the seating, storage and bed deployment for your party.
Suites on Sun should be evaluated on written services and actual room space rather than assumed Haven-enclave access. A premium suite is not the same accommodation product as an aft Haven on Prima.
For scenic travel, a balcony can be useful but is not automatically essential. Compare the extra cost with public viewing options and the time you expect to spend ashore. Check obstructions and overhead public spaces for the exact room.
A smaller Norwegian ship for the route you want
Choose Sun for a route-led trip when its conventional facilities suit the group. It can be especially appealing when you want ordinary cruise comforts without planning around a large collection of optional attractions.
Choose Jewel or a newer class if supervised recreation, a larger range of venues or a particular premium enclave is central. Do not treat the ship’s planned future transfer as a reason for urgency or assume that it guarantees discounted fares.
