On a Disney cruise, the clothing decision that matters most is whether you have booked an adults-only meal. Ordinary family dining is cruise casual, and formal or dress-up evenings are optional opportunities. Palo, Remy and Enchanté have their own standards.
Solve those restaurant requirements first. Then decide how much your family wants to participate in photographs, pirate-themed entertainment or other events. A costume that a child finds uncomfortable is unlikely to improve the evening.

Everyday family dinners are straightforward
Disney’s dining dress FAQ permits ordinary polished casual clothing and also shorts, T-shirts and sundresses in most onboard dining venues. Swimwear and tank tops are excluded. You can plan comfortable family dinners without a formal wardrobe for each person.
Our practical recommendation is a clean outfit that works through dinner and the evening’s activity. For children, prioritize easy movement and familiar shoes. Bring a spare top in the day bag if a spill would otherwise force a long trip back to the cabin before your seating.
Formal and semiformal nights are optional
Disney describes themed and dress-up events as opportunities for family photographs, with the offering depending on cruise length and itinerary. Check the Navigator schedule for your sailing instead of assuming that another ship’s pirate night or formal night falls on the same day.
Choose one shared photo plan if that matters to your family. Coordinating colors can be enough; matching suits and gowns are not necessary to create a meaningful picture. If one child wants a costume and another prefers an ordinary outfit, build the plan around enjoying dinner together rather than forcing the photograph.
Palo brunch and dinner are not interchangeable
Under the current adult-exclusive rules, formal or semiformal clothing is recommended, and polished dress-casual outfits, including good-condition jeans, are permitted. Dress shorts have a specific brunch exception at Palo and Palo Steakhouse. That exception does not extend to Remy or Enchanté. T-shirts, swimwear and sportswear are excluded.
Read your reservation as a complete combination of ship, restaurant and meal. A successful brunch outfit on Disney Dream does not establish the rule for dinner in a different venue. Pack the adult restaurant outfit separately from costumes and beachwear so it is easy to find.
Disney Adventure needs its own restaurant check
Disney’s FAQ includes separate entries for Palo Trattoria and Mike & Sulley’s Flavors of Asia aboard Disney Adventure. Do not copy an adults-only restaurant assumption from another ship onto every premium venue there. Use the exact restaurant’s age and dress information before promising a family meal.

Make costumes earn their suitcase space
Start with the regular outfit underneath. A pirate accessory, character-inspired colors or a single removable costume piece can create the theme while letting a child return to comfortable clothes quickly. Check Disney’s current costume and prohibited-item rules before packing masks or toy weapons; an event theme is not blanket permission for every prop.
For adults, choose an outfit that can serve another evening as well. A dress you already enjoy or a shirt that works with ordinary trousers is more useful than something bought solely for a ten-minute photo stop. Leave extra luggage space for practical items needed during travel days.
Keep your first-night and final-morning plan simple
Have a complete first dinner outfit in hand luggage, especially if checked baggage delivery would otherwise leave the family with only swimsuits. On the final night, set aside shoes and travel clothes before putting bags outside. These small steps prevent more stress than trying to predict precisely how dressed up other families will be.
