Celebrity Blu vs main dining: is AquaClass worth the upgrade?

Compare Blu and Celebrity main dining using the cabin premium, restaurant access, spa benefits and how many meals you will actually enjoy.

AquaClass includes access to Blu, but the upgrade is worth considering only when its food, spa benefits and cabin suit your plans. Compare the actual premium with the meals and facilities you expect to use. A specialty dining package does not provide the same restaurant access.

Include your traveling companions in the decision. Upgrading one cabin can complicate shared dinners when the rest of the group is booked in categories without Blu access.

THE SHORT VERSION

What matters for your decision

  • Blu is an AquaClass benefit, not a standard restaurant anyone can book with a dining package.
  • Compare the full cabin premium across the meals you expect to use.
  • Keep your group’s access together in mind before upgrading only one cabin.

01

What comes with AquaClass

Celebrity’s AquaClass page identifies Blu as its exclusive restaurant and lists spa-related benefits. The thermal facility differs by ship series: Edge Series uses SEA Thermal Suite, while other named series use Persian Garden. Check the precise ship and fare rather than treating every AquaClass stay as identical.

Main dining already offers variety. On Celebrity Ascent, the four included restaurants are Cyprus, Tuscan, Normandie and Cosmopolitan. They include Mediterranean, Italian and French influences. Celebrity assigns a restaurant and permits requests for the others subject to availability, giving you several options before an AquaClass upgrade.

02

What the Blu sample menu offers

Celebrity publishes a Blu sample breakfast and dinner menu. Use it to understand the style, while recognizing that a sample can change. The Ascent dining page also shows how Blu sits alongside main, specialty and other restricted-access restaurants.

The sample breakfast includes a frittata with asparagus and pancakes flavored with berries and pecans. At dinner, there are lentils with roast chicken and a filet served with a beet-and-olive jus, alongside familiar salmon and strip-steak choices. These examples show a broader range than the spa-themed description might suggest. Menus change, so use the sample to assess the style rather than to promise a particular dish.

03

Breakfast can change the value calculation

Celebrity’s dining explainer describes Blu breakfast and dinner service. For someone who enjoys an unhurried restaurant breakfast, that can be as important as the evening meal. For someone leaving early for excursions, several breakfast opportunities may go unused.

Count the mornings when you have time for a seated breakfast and the evenings you expect to eat aboard. Blu's advertised service covers breakfast and dinner; routine lunch should not be included in the calculation. Check onboard hours around early excursions and arrival or departure days.

04

Use a transparent cabin-premium example

Suppose AquaClass costs $700 more for two people over seven nights, and you expect to eat five dinners and four breakfasts in Blu. That is about $78 per couple per planned visit if you assign the entire premium to dining. The number is illustrative, not a Celebrity price or a restaurant charge. It simply makes the decision visible.

If you value the thermal suite or other benefits, allocate part of the premium to those instead. If the upgraded cabin is in a location you dislike, include that drawback rather than ignoring it because of the restaurant. Compare with a standard cabin plus the specialty meals you would independently choose; do not assume the two arrangements provide identical access or service.

05

Groups need an access plan before booking

If your friends or family are in another cabin category, do not assume they can join every Blu dinner. The public AquaClass description establishes restricted access, and anecdotal reports of exceptions are not a reliable group reservation policy. Ask Celebrity about the specific party and intended restaurant arrangement before choosing different fare categories.

If you expect to eat elsewhere with friends most evenings, value Blu mainly for the breakfasts and separate dinners you will use. Agree on shared meals before choosing cabin categories.

06

Who should choose each option

AquaClass is worth considering when you like Blu’s menu, will use both breakfast and dinner, value the relevant spa facilities and accept the cabin location and premium. Main dining can be the better purchase when your group wants to eat together, you plan many evenings ashore, or you would rather spend selectively on specialty restaurants.

Read the Celebrity dress guide for current evening guidance and the steakhouse comparison for a separate paid-dinner option. Compare the actual cabin offers on CruiseGem and keep the calculation tied to your itinerary rather than a universal AquaClass verdict.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Your decision checklist

  1. Compare current sample menus
  2. Count realistic Blu visits
  3. Check the ship’s thermal facility
  4. Confirm group access before upgrading
COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions travelers ask

Can anyone reserve Blu on Celebrity?

Blu is presented as an AquaClass-exclusive restaurant. Do not assume a standard specialty dining purchase creates access; confirm any specific exception with Celebrity.

Does Blu serve lunch?

The cited operator dining guide describes breakfast and dinner. Do not include routine Blu lunch in the upgrade calculation without a specific confirmed arrangement.

Is AquaClass always worth it for food?

No. It depends on the cabin premium, menu preferences, planned meals, group arrangements and value of the other benefits.
