Carnival Adventure class: Adventure and Encounter for an Australian cruise

Adventure and Encounter broaden Carnival’s Australian choices, but they should not be booked from a checklist written for a U.S.-based Carnival ship. They joined the brand from P&O Australia and retain a different layout, restaurant collection and accommodation story.
For U.S. travelers, these are destination-led options: choose the Australian departure and South Pacific or regional itinerary first. Then compare the ship’s actual facilities with Splendor or Luminosa, including the travel time and pre-cruise arrangements needed to reach it.

Former P&O Australia ships with their own product
Carnival’s official fleet chart identifies Adventure class separately. The ships’ 2025 Carnival entry is not their original construction date: Adventure previously sailed as Pacific Adventure and, before that, Golden Princess; Encounter was Pacific Encounter and previously Star Princess.
That inherited design means a Carnival logo does not automatically bring the same branded outlets, waterpark or cabin concepts found elsewhere. Use current Carnival information and sailing-specific Australian terms, especially when older Princess or P&O descriptions appear in search results.

Pools, family programming and optional paid shows
The ships provide pools, theater entertainment, family programming and paid adventure-style activities where offered. Carnival’s Australian introduction highlights the additional-charge, adults-only Blanc de Blanc show as a distinction of these two ships. It is not a general promise for every Carnival vessel.
Check which activities are included and which require a reservation or payment. A photograph of an outdoor attraction does not establish opening hours, height limits or whether weather will permit it on your sailing.
If the family mainly wants a specific U.S.-fleet attraction such as BOLT or SkyRide, these are not substitutes. If the trip is about Australian embarkation and Pacific ports, a conventional ship with the right cabin can be the more useful choice.
The Pantry, Waterfront and the restaurants that cost extra
The inherited restaurant mix is a major reason to research these ships individually. The Pantry, Waterfront, Angelo’s and Dragon Lady provide the core meal choices; Luke’s Bar & Grill and Luke’s Burger Bar are separately charged options. Do not assume that a restaurant name or inclusion survived every stage of the brand transition unchanged.
Use the current Australian booking page for dining inclusions, packages and onboard currency. Compare that with the terms on your actual invoice. U.S.-market Carnival dining or beverage guidance is not automatically controlling for an Australian departure.
For a family, test the ordinary meal routine first: breakfast before an excursion, a straightforward lunch and dinner at a workable time. Specialty venues are optional additions after those needs are met.
Byron Beach benefits and inherited balcony layouts
Byron Beach accommodation is a different proposition from Havana or Terrazza. Carnival’s Australian introduction explicitly welcomes all ages to Byron Beach Club; the separate Oasis area is the adults-only retreat. Check the exact suite eligibility and benefits for the sailing. A premium label from the former P&O product should not be translated into a different Carnival enclave by analogy.
The former Princess layout also makes old balcony photos potentially confusing. Confirm the current room number, category, cover and view. An image of a similarly numbered room from a different ship or an earlier operating brand is not enough.
For a long-haul visitor, leave arrival margin before embarkation and consider how luggage, sleep and transport will work together. A room upgrade cannot compensate for an impractical same-day international flight connection. That is a planning judgment, separate from the cruise line’s contract.
For an Australian departure and regional itinerary
Choose Adventure or Encounter when an Australian departure, suitable regional itinerary and the ships’ particular venues fit the trip. The easier homeport can break an otherwise close comparison between them.
Choose Splendor if its spa and pool arrangement or more familiar Carnival features appeal more. Choose Luminosa for a different, less attraction-heavy layout after checking its limits. U.S. travelers looking only for a quick Caribbean break have little reason to make this a ship-first choice.
